Hudson Union has extensive experience in the usability, information architecture and web design space. Whether creating designs from schematics, schematics for designers, or designed and coded templates for backend teams, we’re always able to identify the right solution quickly and efficiently.

Creative Director
Mike Kelly

Mike began his career typesetting for Laser Designs in Harvard Square, Cambridge in 1991 and has been working in new media, design and publishing ever since. As a designer, animator, multimedia author and consultant he has provided critical expertise and vision to a wide variety of clients including AT&T, IBM, Macmillan McGraw Hill and Capitol Records. Mike served as the Director of Experience Design at ZEFER, a usability-focused web design and consulting company catering to Fortune 500 clients.

A successful entrepreneur, Mike co-founded Undergroundfilm, a broadband exhibition space for independent film and Viasta, an online gaming technology company. While at Undergroundfilm, Mike led the development of Pop.com, a joint venture of DreamWorks SKG, Imagine Entertainment and Vulcan Ventures.

Mike holds a BFA from Tulane University and graduated from Boston Latin.

Managing Director
James Oates

James started his career in 1984 as an Account Executive at Benton & Bowles Advertising in New York City.  With a focus on Client-Management, Marketing and Strategic Planning, James worked with a wide range of consumer goods companies, including Kellogg’s, Brown Forman, Miller Brewing Company, Heineken USA and Saab Cars USA.

After his tenure in Advertising, James turned his attention to Magazine Publishing, including stints at Newsweek, The New Yorker, and Child magazine. Prior to joining Hudson Union, James was the Executive Director of Marketing for Vogue.

James holds a BS from the E. W. Scripps School of Journalism at Ohio University.
